Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Overwhelmed with the Love and Kindness on this forum

I came to my fellow deadheads with a desire for change- I came to my revered web site, hoping to find the kindness I always found in the heads I knew and know- I came to find examples of Bobby buzzkill tunes so I could perhaps be enlightened what did I get?

1) One kind and gentle spirit tells me I have no comprehension of the band

2) Another beautiful human being professing to be a deadhead- who tells me I will not change my mind any way.

3) A response from a wonderful man, a true peace and love hippie in his day, so it might seem, and he embraces me with a great big hug and tells me my question does not even dignify an answer.

4) Yet another response from a reliable and active participant on this board telling me I was setting myself up to not have a good time.

I could go on. The main reason by far that I asked the question about the Bobby songs was to get examples- I meant what I said- I have always meant what I said- and I challenge you to go to the main forum and type in my handle- check out my posts prior to even this week- you will see that I am not at all the person some are making me out to be here. Type in my handle- hit the space bar- and then type November 2006- I did hours and hours and hours of research an an attempt to keep downloading of the sound boards alive.

But part of the reason for my question was to see how the community might turn like this- sort of a social experiment- and so we see- good job you'all- appreciate your love and kindness- Truly want to meet you some day

To those who gave examples without criticism- thanks. To those who understood that my post was not saying that Bobby was the only one who made poor choices- Thanks

The whole point was that in my opinion your beloved Bob did it with much greater frequency than the others.

Give me a break. I assume you've heard countless hours of live Dead as most people who come here have. If you haven't heard any redeeming versions of all those songs you posted chances are you probably won't. That's fine, that's your opinion, NOTHING wrong with liking and disliking what you do. But when you post a question in the way you did then start crying about " kindness" you kind of come off as a hypocrite to me. Whatever, the Dead had an incredible scene that put off and shared incredible vibes but it definately wasn't all peace and love man. It wasn't in the band and wasn't with all the fans.

Liam,
Are you my brother? You two sound identical when you ride your high-horses. Face it, you asked a question geared towards nothing but confrontation. You didn't want answers, you wanted arguements. Sounds like A) you got what you wanted and B) You got off easy. I'm in league with all the prior posters as I think they have pretty much said it all; you won't find anything you like, how can you dissect one person from the group whole and judge that performance, and like direwolf, I've been drinking so, up yer arse! woohoo! :)

I guess it is the state of our educational system- or maybe it is media saturation- or perhaps none of you fine fellows are familiar with the word "Satire".

It is hilarious as hell that you think I am serious. The last post I started in response to the other post was entirely tongue in cheek.

LMAOROTH- and ya took the bait- if you truly think I was whining and you truly think I believed in all that peace and love crap, you are sorely mistaken.

There was not a shred of whining either in the new post or the responses I wrote in the other post. Not in my mind, not in my heart, not in my soul-

But I did successfully pull off the satire- to create a fictional character- Liamfinnegan- and to get you to think I was some naive, Bobby hating, Don Quixote, who could not handle the sputum found on just about any board on any topic on the internet.

The world is full of bullies- it is hard-wired in human DNA- I learned how to deal with that years ago- and it never stops being interesting to me that I can touch a button and out come the bullies- especially when they are drinking-

Direwolf- those few cold one's become you well- now go beat your wife or your dog. Or- if you really want to change, I hear there are good 12 step programs out there for you. People who are proud to be Asses are my favorite kind of people- what what the world do without you? I do give you credit for entertaining me so much this evening

UncleJohnnyD- I can't tell you to beat your wife or your dog as I am sure they both left you years ago. So go head and huff and huff and blow the door down- bullies like you are a dime a dozen. Now go coodle your johnson as I am sure you are the only one that is doing that to it these days

BLKptr1- Now your command of the english language is outstanding. Can I borrow you for expository writing this week? Now be a good little boy and go back and listen to Rush and behave like the dittohead that you are. So sad- another impotent man that needs to hurl expletives- Great job- love your prose- DO you have any other books or short stories published that I can read?

Doodle- Your brother must be one hell of a guy- he must understand English a little better than you do- that is for sure- Argument? too funny- reminds me of an old Monty Python sketch. Satire- get it? Set up a target and then let the ugliness fly- it is unspeakably funny to read your post.

Purple Gel- apologies to you- should not have included you in the satire- you are a great contributor and have provided many a good listen. Sometimes when you go fishing for tuna, a few dolphins get caught.

Good Night, and Good luck.

LMAO - thank you for the biggest laugh of my weekend. I have an exwife but no dog - i do have a little black kitty though - bout 14 weeks old (gonna beat that damn thing right now - him lookin for attention - smack!!!!) lol
I am proud to be an ass though (seriously - if you havent figured that out by now, you havent been on the LMA long enough) - i crack myself up constantly - thank you for including me in your favorite kind of people. i am touched and flattered.
and if you need to post this type of reply to cover what you portray as a supposed "satirical" post - more power to ya - i dont buy it, which makes it all the more funny to me. i need entertainment, being laid up with a broken leg.
Anyways, i probably could use a 12 step program (as long as they serve drinks and donuts). Come to think of it though, i'm not sure scotch and donuts go to well together :(
Truly though, you covering for your idiotic post has been great fun. I thank you for that Liam. I'd feel sorry for the whole thing if i wasn't having such a great time with this. Hope there are no hard feelings - lol - this has been great :)

Fire away LSAT/MCAT Breath- Doctorate? Must be from Stratford Career Institute. Ex-wife? Big surprise there- betcha ya gonna tell this moron that she died in a tragic accident- or a slow horrible disgusting dribbling death at the hands of breast cancer at an intolerably young age-

Oh- forgot- you know my motives- the doctorate must be in psychology- ok then- I am just an internet name somewhere- yet you know for sure I was not writing satire- you ARE good- I stayed up until now cause I could not gota bed until I was called a moron one more time.

You want to talk about covering up? Ok- internet poster is abusive, reclusive, excessively sarcastic- says it up front and everything- likes being an ass to people- thinks it is ok cause he admits it.....

Face it dude- you are a bully- the worst kind of bully- the kind that truly thinks it is okay to be an ass- DId your Oxycontins run out? Is that why you are being an even bigger bully today? Thank God you are cooped up with a broken part of your body- I am sure it happened due to a hangover or being drunk- if you were not, your negative energy would be out in the world more...

I would rather be MORON than MOREOFF...nah nah nah

OK, shall we attempt to tone this down just a bit. I have never seen such a vitriolic spewing on this board before. Now, I would like to think that the rather confrontational nature of most of these responses are not representational of how most of you really are. Satire is a good thing, or is this Russia circa 1965? If so, many of the posters here would find themselves in the Gulag for having dared to make light of the Dead. Please. After seeing and reading many of the interviews with Jerry, I truly believe he would be the first to take these types of questions in the light they were intended and laugh at them along with the rest of us. In reference to the earlier comment about there being less then reputable heads at shows, at a New Jersey show I had my car broken into and about 120 tapes "borrowed" by some unknown scumbag. In Passaic on Halloween, I had a pumpkin lofted at me from a van with Dead stickers all over it. Maybe it's Jersey. Anywho, shall we lighten up a bit?

What are you talking about? First of all, yeah this is how I am, I tend to say what I think. Also, who's saying you can't make light of the Dead? I'm not some religious fanatic that has lines I draw. Pretty much the only line I draw is if something's funny or if worthy efforts have been attempted. I never flamed this character for his initial post which started all this, I merely said I wasn't going to go out of my way to convert him. Funny, you mention Jerry. Remember his response to Weir in the Q & A section of Ticket to New Years asking if he would ever get Truckin right? Don't dignify it with a response.

This dude starts with all this mellow drama specifically intended to get the reacion it did. I believe this is also known as TROLLING is it not? If any of you people want to lecture, lecture the Irish " satarist " (yeah right ). Better yet, let's not give him any undeserved attention.

Just to clarify the "Great Pumpkin Tossing" in Passaic, the show was Go Ahead, a short-lived project with Bill and...was in Brent? Not sure. This was the show where there was no clear parking spaces marked and many people parked in a KFC across from the theater. When the show got out, all the cars had been towed. Talk about a "buzzkill", much worse than anything that Bobby or Donna could ever come up with.

Liam,
Maybe it was the use of a strong word like Buzzkill, that made me have the reaction I did. I saw a list of 20 or so songs and then you mentioned that you were less than halfway through the alphabet!! I can think of very few shows that did not feature at least 6-8 of the songs you mentioned, let alone the ones you didn't.

As for the whole Love/Kindness thing, I believe that was in many ways a myth. While I had many great experiences with strangers on tour, I also had my share of bad trips withe strangers. There was always an element that would rip you off, or as we said, they would sell their Grandmother just to get to the next show. Certainly the people you chose as friends in the scene were great, honest and kind people, so were my Tour friends. However, I met a lot of shady characters, and scumbags on tour as well. I once had 5 sets of Red Rocks '85 tickets stolen from my bedroom by a "friend of a friend", whom we had extended some true "deadhead" hospitality ( place to stay, food and mind alterations) to and we had to scrounge for tickets the day before the shows after flying in from the texas/OKC shows.

Purple - dont coddle - it is unbecoming a good a poster as you are - as for me - i'm an ass so i can be vitriolic and assoholic - (damn, i gott lay off the brew for the rest of the night) - lol

If Liam cant handle Bobby songs - he can go listen to Justin Timberlake or Julio Inglesias (sp) - maybe they are more his speed - Bobby is rock and roll in my opinion - he may have sucked at times, but so did Jerry, Brent and the rest. Holy crap - it is a JAM BAND!!!!! it didnt always work
